Geto Boys

Geto Boys is a hip-hop group from Houston, Texas that was formed in 1986. The group was initially composed of Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill. The group’s music was known for its raw, gritty style and socially conscious lyrics that addressed issues such as poverty, drug abuse, and police brutality.

The group released their debut album, “Making Trouble,” in 1988. The album was produced by Houston-based DJ Ready Red and featured the hit single “Making Trouble.” The album was a commercial disappointment, but it helped to establish the group’s reputation as one of the most controversial and confrontational acts in hip-hop.

The group’s second album, “Grip It! On That Other Level,” was released in 1989 and featured the classic track “Mind Playing Tricks on Me.” The song dealt with the issue of mental illness and has since been hailed as one of the greatest hip-hop songs of all time. The album was a commercial success and helped to cement the group’s place in hip-hop history.

In 1991, the group released their third album, “We Can’t Be Stopped,” which featured the iconic album cover of a bandaged Bushwick Bill being wheeled into a hospital after he was shot in the eye during a dispute with his girlfriend. The album was a critical and commercial success and featured classic tracks such as “Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta” and “Mind of a Lunatic.”

The group continued to release albums throughout the 1990s, including “Till Death Do Us Part” (1993), “The Resurrection” (1996), and “Da Good da Bad & da Ugly” (1998). However, the group’s members often found themselves at odds with one another, and they disbanded and re-formed several times throughout the decade.

In 2005, the group released their eighth and final album, “The Foundation,” which featured the hit single “Yes, Yes, Y’all.” The album was a critical success and was hailed as a return to form for the group. However, shortly after the album’s release, Scarface announced that he was leaving the group to pursue a solo career.

Despite the group’s tumultuous history, Geto Boys is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential groups in hip-hop history. Their music has inspired countless artists and helped to pave the way for the emergence of gangsta rap in the 1990s.
